For this course, our guest was Özgür Ulupınar from Yurdakul Mühendislik and the theme of the speech was electrical systems & architectural space.
He started to talk with fields that are related to electricity. That’s why the first example was about high and low voltage. The transformation from high voltage to low, we need to the transformer (trafo), nowadays, he said we started to use inside of the building. Then we talked another important point between architects and electrical engineer, it was jeneratör. There is a motor inside of generator, that’s why it produces noise, vibration and odour. Mostly the discussion between these two professions is because of the generator. It needs to get air than aerate the air thus the location of it gain importance.
In the building, he said we need different types of rooms such as high-low voltage room, jeneratör room, communication and security room, Ups room and so on. He especially emphasizes what we need from architects,
-The door of electricity room should open through the outside.
-You shouldn’t use wet area in these rooms.
-Other equipment such as installation, water pipes and so on shouldn’t pass through electricity rooms.
He resumes on isolation of rooms that we need for electricity, especially for the jeneratör room. Also, architects should know that they can use dilatation the reduce vibration of jeneratör. Moreover, floor rack can be useful.
In addition, he mentioned about lightning and how to avoid from lightning. He emphasizes the importance of faraday cage and other aesthetic solutions. Then, we talked about renewable energy and sustainable architecture. Because these systems also need different things to reduce noise and so on. In our country, it is better to use photovoltaic energy system on the south side of the building with 30-35 degree angle.
Thanks to him for this useful information about electricity and implementation in our daily lives.
